When will the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Virtual Runs take place?
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Virtual Runs will take place on Saturday 16 October 2021.
Participants can choose between the following distances:
5km, 10km and 21.1km
Participants get to choose the location, run their own race, at their own pace, and time it themselves.
Every participant is required to complete their chosen distance any time between 06:00 SAST and 17h00 SAST for their result to be recorded. Participants who attempt runs outside of the confirmed event times will not receive an official result.

When does registration open?
Registration opens on Tuesday 28 September 2021.
When do registration close?
Registration close on Friday 15 October 2021 at midnight.
How much is the registration fee?
Registration for all three Virtual Runs is FREE!
Will I be able to run one of the actual Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 5km and 10km courses on 16 October?
Participants are advised that no physical route or course shall be demarcated or secured for the event. In the circumstances, participants are encouraged to create their own route for their applicable distance, while strictly adhering to the traffic rules and regulations in their area, and not to seek to follow any “official” route or one which may have been used in which previous editions of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.
Participants will also be required to adhere to COVID-19 related hygiene, physical and social distancing regulations set out by their local authorities.
Can I run on a treadmill?
No, participants’ GPS location will be tracked through their phone (via the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Tracking App) or through their GPS watch. Participants will therefore be required to run on the road or in any open space.

Complete your run using your smart watch or fitness tracker and import your run from Strava or Garmin Connect by following the steps below:
1. Download the Free Cape Town Marathon app
2. Claim your profile
3. Upload your run to either Strava or Garmin Connect
4. Open the Cape Town Marathon app
5. Tap on your name on the home screen
6. Tap on the import button at the bottom of the screen.
7. Select Strava or Garmin Connect
8. Follow the steps to import your run
How will my race be timed?
Participants can run with their cell phone or GPS enabled watch.
If a participant wishes to run with their cell phone, the participant will be required to download and use the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Tracking App. The App will use participant’s cell phone GPS tracker to track their progress, which means participants must run with their phones and have their phone’s location function switched on.

How do I access the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon App?
There are a few steps participants need to follow:
Step 1 – Register for any one of the three Virtual Runs on the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon website: https://capetownmarathon.com/register/
Step 2 - Download the Cape Town Marathon mobile app from your app store by searching for ‘Cape Town Marathon’ in your App Store or click on the following link: https://rtrt.me/app/ctm2021
Step 3 - Find yourself in the ‘Search Participant’ field using your Name or follow the steps in the race registration email you would have received
Step 4 - Claim your profile by clicking on your Name
Step 5 - Click yes to app permission prompts.
Where will I see my results?
A live leaderboard will be available on the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Tracking App and the final results will be available post-event on both the App and the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon website.
